Syracuse Hearts O'Fire

The Johnson Family Home Project

About Us

With open and loving arms, Diana Johnson, an adoption counselor, and her husband Dave, a retired deputy fire chief, welcomed dozens of children into their home. They have three biological girls, 14 adopted children (from as far way as India, Sierra Leone, South Korea, West Germany and The Philippines) and 12 children who were fostered.
"We never pursued the adoptions; children with hard to place situations came to us, God willing."

The City of Syracuse Fire Department nominated the family for consideration by ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" for a complete renovation of their home in 2009 and again in 2011. The family made it to the last stages but was ultimately not selected. Ret. Lt. Scott McClurg (of McClurg Remodeling & Construction) and Captain Bob Whitehead organized a community effort to improve the Johnsons' quality of life. Under their leadership, hundreds of volunteers will begin work on April 16, 2012.
